Our Production Company
We have been researching into the conventions of
film production names, logos and their short animations which feature before
the film starts. Particularly focusing on low budget, independent comedy films,
many films have their production company film named after the surname of the
director.
As a result, we have decided to call our production
company “Akhtar Productions” as it is the surname of one of our group members
and it is a play on the word ‘actor'. It is also a unique name that stands out
and will be remembered easily.
For the logo we chose a simplistic design of round
glasses as we believe they comes with the connotations of viewing which is
suitable for a film company and they are also the type of glasses we would
envision our target audience wearing. Below the illustration is the title of
the production company in the font 'Century Gothic' as this font is often used
for comedies as it reminds the audience of a very light-hearted, almost
whimsical, unserious atmosphere. The logo is yellow on a black background which
not only fits our colour scheme but also suggest that underlying juxtaposition
of comedy (bright happy yellow) with the blackness and dark of drama in the
film's genre.
All our marketing for the film will be independent
throughout production company. We would use a lot of modern day self-promotion
through the means of social media and film festivals.
Our Distribution
Company
After much deliberation on what kind of institution
would distribute our media product we finally decided that Curzon Artificial
Eye would be our main distributor. This British film association was founded in
1976 as a distributor that specialises
in independent, artistic films that are often concerned with social realism
issues and used a lot of symbolism to express these concerns. For example,
films like 'Under the Rainbow' and 'Fish Tank' are films very similar film to
our own as they have a black comedy genre. Therefore, they attract the same
type of audience and by choosing this distributor admirers of these films
may also be interested in our film as they have been distributed through
the same company.
We have also considered promoting our film at the Sundance Film Festival and at the BFI as they attract a lot of audience interested in independent films.
