Shooting: Day 4

After making our decision to change a lot of our storyboard, on Saturday the 18th of March we head out to Lizzie's house to film the shots we needed for the third edit of our film opening. The locations were all fairly close together and the shots we needed to obtain were fairly short so we could do it in one day.
We started by in Tonbridge Park where the public toilets were. As gross as the location to film was, we took our time to get the shots we needed. We had deliberately chosen public toilets that had few to no members of the public use at all and we never came across the issue of having someone walk in whilst we were filming. As this is property of the council we were careful to clear up the mess we had made with toilet paper on the floor and the writing with lipstick on the toilet doors and mirrors. We chose to film these tracking shots of the character's walking feet using an iPhone 7 camera as it was more capable of focusing on moving objects.
Secondly, we filmed the bus stop scene and the location was not too far from Lizzie's house. Then we got Lizzie's dad at the ready to drive past at the right moment to create our wipe screen. Ebony had already changed into the costume as before and we adjusted her hair and makeup so she appeared a little hung over, although it was unlikely the camera would pick up such detail from a distance. We set out the tripod and the camera on the other side of the road and got the zoom with the correct framing of the bus stop. We came across very few issues, however we did have to be extra careful of the road as we were crossing it often to give direction to our actress.
When that scene was complete and we were confident the wipe screen would work we started on the exterior of house scene. For this we filmed with the iPhone 7 as there were a lot of fast pace, hand held shots that we were concerned the Canon camera would have issues with, especially focusing fast. This scene has a lot of props and we also had to set up the area to make it appear the way we wanted it to. For example, we left out many empty bottles on the ground. Firstly, we filmed the wipe screen footage and got Lizzie's dad to drive across in his car again. Then we went closer to the house and filmed the character's reaction to receiving the note from her mum and seeing all her belongings out in the front of the garden. We had to slightly adjust the order of the credit sequence as some of our props were not available and then we filmed them.
We went inside to film the text message credit where we could film without getting a reflection of ourselves due to the natural sunlight as it was an issue outside. We had other difficulties with filming this phone shot and realised we would need some tight editing as the inaccurate date and time to our storyline was sometimes had not to get in the shot.
Finally, we got Ebony to speak the voiceover lines into our iPhones so we could embed it into our film in editing. Once we decided we had got all the shots we needed, we striked our set and went home.
