The Vision

This is our final vision that we have built as a result of the mapping of initial ideas and research that we gathered. Below is 9 key frames that we have put together for us to be gain a better idea for the significant shots we will be taking for our film opening:

The Colour Palette
The colour palette for our film opening will be bright, warm and fairly harsh colours. We feel that our choices of colours are appropriate for our film opening as the bright colours represent youth. Red represents passion, love and even danger, foreshadowing potential events later on in the film.

The fact that they are quite harsh and contrapuntal colours to the sombre mood reflected in Samantha's facial expression is suggestive of how different the character is from the rest of society.
Colours such as yellow and browns were also often fashioned together in the 1970s and we wanted to incorporate this colour complexion into our film opening to remind the audience of a time when marijuana was frequently smoked. In addition, the Rastafarian colours are red, green, gold and sometimes black is added. Rastafarian culture can also be associated with the consumption of weed, which relate to the beliefs and recreations of Samantha's character.
We also took inspiration from Wes Anderson's films were he would often use a bright colour scheme of yellows and red to expose certain moral issues within society or convey something about the tone of his films.

The Sound Palette
The sound for our film opening is mostly likely to be recorded pre or post filming as the footage may have unwanted background sounds, such as wind muffling the microphone, which would make the opening less professional.
We are aware of the limitations that copyright causes to finding music and therefore through research we found a website called www.epidemicsound.com that provides copyright free music. It is very appropriate as the website includes many cinematic tracks in its library and labels the energy it has and it is also free, which fits our budget. We are currently still in the process of finding a track that will work well with our opening but we want a song that had a similar energy and tone as ‘One’ by Three Dog Night.
‘One’ by Three Dog Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5ab8BOu4LE
Three Dog Night is an American rock band, who were popular in the 1970s. They had many hit songs including ‘Mamma Told Me Not To Come’ and ‘Never Been To Spain’. The 1970s was also a time when Bob Marley was popular with his reggae music. Reggae music is often associated with marijuana and the Rastafarian movement, which we will incorporate some references to in the opening to show her addiction to the drug. Therefore, we are keen to feature a reggae soundtrack into the film opening as a alternative if we do not find a suitable match to "one" by Three Dog Night.

This music will be played in the opening when Samantha is on the bench, as we want the audience to recognise the chaos of this character's mind as soon as we are introduced to her on screen.

The second boy running across the screen creates a wipe screen transition to the scene where Ebony is sitting by the brick wall.

The boy running across the screen is significant as it demonstrates youth and sets the setting and tone of the film.

The use of dialogue will be short but convey the sense of comedy and culture in the area as we will change the actor’s accent and colloquial language.
