Voiceover Script

By our second edit of the film opening, we had decided that we wanted to include a voiceover at the beginning as this is very commonly used at the start of comedy films. It breaks the fourth wall and allows the main character to reveal a part of their comically quirky personality to the audience. Therefore, we thought it would be appropriate for us to include this at the start of our opening. Originally we were not going to have Ebony speak at all in her role as Samantha Stark but due to this change we reviewed our entire potential cast again. I personally found that actress Lily could perform a better South London accent to Ebony so we ask her to record a voice over for her. This would not be an issue as the audience never hear Ebony's voice so they can only assume that Lily's voice is her's. However, if we were going to continue to film the rest of this film, we would have to use Ebony as our voice over to avoid any continuity errors.
Our first thought for the voice over was to have the main character recite a famous quote and then completely ruin it with her own ideology. We decided on a Shakespeare quote from Romeo and Juliet and this was our first draft:
"These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder, which, as they kiss, consume.
What the fuck does that even mean? I'm not bothered about these old sods who wrote those romantic classics. I just think we should live life in the moment and to the full. Don't you?"

After hearing it being said and putting it in the opening we decided it was not what we wanted. Instead we took inspiration from the voice over in 'Trainspotting'. The short snappy phrases and philosophical meaning was more suitable for us. Our final voice over is this:

"Wake up. Get dressed. Go to college. Do work. Go home. Do homework. Graduate. Get a job. Have kids. Die. Fuck that, I'm gonna live my life how I want to."

Both voiceovers are available to listen to on the 'Sound' page.
