The Brief

For part of our A level media course, it is our task as a group of four to create a film opening that applies to these rules:

  • it has to be 2 minutes long
  • it must apply to the law (being especially aware of copyright)
  • and it should demonstrate your skills as media students and your knowledge of conventional film openings.
With no limitations on the genre, narrative, cinematic rating or we have the ability to explore an array of ideas for our film opening. However, there are limitations we do have to consider and we had to think about how we would work with them:

Limitation
Solution
Time- 2 minutes
Stick to a detailed storyboard and be harsh with editing
Budget of £0
Make props, set and costumes ourselves and use contacts to film on people's land and when employing actors
Technology
Use the Canon DSLR camera and tripods that the school provide us with and make use of camera phones
Casting
Use connections to use as actors and do some talent sourcing work
Location
Use connections and ask their permission to use their land or buildings before filming
Deadlines of 28th February
Schedule when filming and editing will take place and set early personal deadlines
Legality
Look on copyright free websites for music and make our own Foley sounds
