For our
film opening we have one main character to introduce and one quick shot of two
boys running. The main character should be:
Gender: Female
Age: teenager between 15 and 18 years
Hair colour: no bright outstanding hair dyes
Height: anywhere between 5ft and 5ft 10inches
We felt
that there was no need to audition each actor as they would not have to deliver
any lines or perform very physically to get the shots we need as the character
stays fairly stationary in each scene. Also, by analysing the acting experience
they each had we realised that they could easily follow direction on the day of
the shoot of how we want our main character to be portrayed. However, if we
were to create the whole of this film where the character would speak and
become more physical and emotive, we would think about getting them to prepare
an audition piece or deliver a few lines from an extract of our script.

Final
decision:
We have
decided to cast Ebony as our main character because her appearance had the most
resemblance to the character we created and her mannerism also reflected that
of Samantha. She was also flexible with our shooting schedule and we strongly
admired the acting experience she had, therefore trusting her ability to
execute the role well.
Casting
our Extras
Our other
roles in the opening, unlike Ebony's, will be uncharacterised and they each
appear in the opening for less than a second so we do not need to focus on
these 'extras' for too long. Nonetheless, we did agree on some casting
decision:
- One adult actor needs to have the ability to run and deliver South London accent to shout out the line "Come back here, you little fuckers!"
- Two separate actors to the actor above need to have the ability to run, be a children or small is physique (so they appear as children on screen) and one of them needs to be able to do a low scream.
Here are
our final decisions on casting our extras:

camera screaming for comic effect.
Extra 2 profile

His role: Plays an adult man in
the park who is chasing the two younger boys. Walks quickly past the screen
whilst shouting "Come back here, you little fuckers!" for comic
effect and a sense of the rough area where the protagonist lives, adds to the
drama genre and harsh theme of drugs.
